The “House Critters” Thanksgiving Time
The house
critters knew something special was going to happen. The human that spent the
most time with them was cleaning everything which meant they had to keep moving
around; she was called Barb by the other humans.
Henrietta
Bobbie Bunny was the eldest of the critters and she decided they should try to
figure out what was going to happen. She found Ducky Duck and Rainy Reindeer in
the living room in Barbs’ lazyboy chair while Big Bunny was with Blue Booby in
the bedroom sound asleep. Henrietta got the other two to jump up onto the bed
and after she woke the sleepers up, which took a while as Blue Booby was a very
sound sleeper, they started the discussion. It was not hard to get started as Halloween
had come and gone awhile ago and there was some snow a few days ago, so they
knew it was autumn or winter. They made field trips through the downstairs
rooms to look at the decorations that Barb was putting everywhere and then gathered
on the bed again. The decorations looked a lot like what was up before
Halloween, corn stalks, pumpkins, acorns, and pictures of much of the same
stuff. They knew this was not for
Christmas, as then there were pine trees, skiers, and penguins with everything
having bright colors or glitter. There must be something different to help them
figure out what was going to happen, so they made another look around the
downstairs. This time they all saw the missing clue at once. Barb had put a big
stuffed bird in the middle of the dining room table, it was called Tom turkey,
and the humans cooked one and had guests over to eat it on Thanksgiving.
She also put a flag on the front porch that had a huge turkey on both sides, part of her flag collection for all the seasons and holidays. The house critters were happy, not only with figuring out what was going to happen, but also that on this day they would get mashed potatoes with gravy and cranberries!
